Charlotte's Brew Boom

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's a brew boom! Governor Pat McCrory just announced that April is North Carolina Beer Month.

The week kicks off the 5th Annual Charlotte Craft Beer Week.

And as that beer goes down smooth, you can thank North Carolina's water, says Dave Scott, head brewer at Unknown Brewery.

Water plays heavily into flavor profile. That's according to Stephanie Carson, Coordinator for 'All Ale to the Queen Beer Carnival' going on this Saturday.

"The brewers will tell you water is a nice blank slate - most of it's low in mineral content when water is high in mineral content," adds Carson.

So the next time you sip on that IPA, you're pouring into Crown Town's future.

Charlotte is up to a dozen breweries and still plans to add four or five more.
