Childhood Attention Problems May Be Sleep Related
The diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or A.D.H.D. has risen sixty percent over the last ten years. But, a new study in Pediatrics says this isn't an epidemic. Researchers found a link between inadequate sleep and A.D.H.D. symptoms. They say kids with an A.D.H.D. diagnosis may have a sleep disorder instead. Dr. Jeannine Gingras of Gingras Sleep Medicine said, "Any disorder that interrupts sleep or causes sleep deprivation can result in ADHD like symptoms in children." Gingras Sleep Medicine says morning headaches, insufficient sleep and the inability to fall and stay asleep are some of the signs of the more than 100 sleep disorders that can affect children. |
