CHARLOTTE,NC--Covenant United Methodist Church held their 28th annual Police, Fire and Medic dinner Friday.

The dinner honored fine men and women who serve, protect and care for the community. The dinner started in 1985 after Judy Allred was in an automobile accident.

Allred was so impressed with the care she received from responders that she went to her husband Jim, who was a minister of Covenant United Methodist and suggested they have a dinner to honor the public servants.

The appreciation BBQ dinner is lead by the group, United Methodist Men. This weekend's dinner marked the 28th year the church has honored the men and women who serve, protect and care for the community.
