College Costs Front & Center Of Presidential AdsCHARLOTTE, NC- Paying for college is on the minds of many new high school graduates in Charlotte. College costs are also front and center in the presidential election. From promises about student loan rates to more financial aid options, some local parents and graduates say the candidates are making empty promises. "It sounds great. But, no, I don't believe it," said Alejandra Lane, as she walked her graduate out of Bojangles Coliseum. As they celebrate their biggest accomplishment to date, some parents and graduates say it's hard to believe what they hear from candidates. "In election year it sounds great to say we support the students, when as you see the last four years graduates come out already graduating in debt," said Lane. College financial planning experts say they expect discussion about the cost of college to increase as November gets closer. "Some families are so hopeful that there will indeed be something coming that could help them that families probably will make a decision on who to vote for based solely on this piece,” said Jeremy Turner, co-owner of SAFE College Funding.
