CHARLOTTE, N.C.--  Thursday was pole night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as drivers put the pedal to the metal to see who gets the top starting spot at Saturday's Bank of America 500.

Many fans had Dale Earnhardt, Junior on their minds. He has bee parked by a concussion.

Trouble started for Junior in August during testing at Kansas. He hit the wall hard there and says he knew something was off afterward.

Then he had another accident this past Sunday at Talladega. Wednesday, Juniors 38th Birthday, he was still having headaches and decided to see a  doctor.

Junior's doctor, neurosurgeon Jerry Petty, talked about what's next for Junior. He had an impact test and an MRI, and both were normal.

He also had no issues with amnesia. Doctor Petty says they now want Junior to have four or five days with no headaches.

Junior won't race this weekend in Charlotte or in Kansas. The news ends his chances of winning the 2012 Chase Championship.

Regan Smith will replace him in the NO. 88 Chevrolet.
