Man Admits Starting Fire So He Could Put It Out

Brooksville, Fla. - A Florida man might want to reconsider his burning desire to become a firefighter.

According to media reports, Joseph Michael Brannen started a fire at his local library on purpose, so that he could be the one to put it out.

After the fire started July 6, Brannen told authorities he heard about the fire from the police scanner, and wanted to help fight the blaze with the equipment he purchased on eBay.  But authorities denied his request and he was unable to go near the fire.

Officials begin to believe Brannen started the fire himself after further investigation. On his Facebook profile, Brannen claimed to be a professional firefighter employed by Hillsborough Country Fire Rescue.
He later confessed to starting the blaze in a voluntary interview.

Brannen was charged with second-degree arson and is currently being held at the Hernando County Jail.
