Facebook Leads to Increased Organ Donors
Charlotte, NC - North Carolina is seeing a major boost in organ donors and it's all thanks to Facebook. Debbie Mann-Gibbs with LifeShare Of The Carolinas says, last week, daily donor registrations went up more than 3000 percent. This week she says, "we're seeing about 2 or 3 times more people signing up." For Patrick Mitchell that's encouraging news. Right now, his mother Edith is recovering from a double lung transplant. Patrick says, “If someone hadn't donated their lungs, wouldn't been an organ donor, my baby girl wouldn't get to know her grandmother." As Patrick prepares to celebrate Mothers Day, he's quick to point out, “It meant a brand new life, a true start at life now that she's in her 60s." If you're considering becoming an organ donor, advocates suggest you register at the DMV when you get your license, or you sign up with a national or region organ donor bank.
