Firefighter Charged in Lincoln County with Fraud
LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. --A firefighter who worked for East Lincoln and Denver Fire Departments was arrested and charged with obtaining thousands of dollars under false pretenses.
Lee Keever of Denver was charged Wednesday with two felonies, one for each fire department. Keever allegedly took a total of $22,000 from the departments by submitting reimbursement requests for classes he did not attend, falsifying receipts for equipment and services, and using the departments' credit cards for his own gain.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office launched the investigation on July 15. Keever turned himself into detectives Wednesday morning.
Both fire departments say they have insurance to cover the losses, and it will not affect their response to emergencies in the community. They plan to work with the Lincoln Sheriff's Office and prosecutors to see the case through.
Keever is out of jail on $10,000 bond.
