Former Mayoral Candidate ArrestedWAXHAW, N.C.-- A candidate that ran for Mayor of Waxhaw in last year's election was arrested Thursday. Lisa Nicole Thornton, 41, was arrested Thursday and charged with common law forgery, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office. She was released later that day on a written promise. Thornton ran for Mayor of Waxhaw in November of 2011 against incumbent Mayor Daune Gardner and former Mayor Gary Underwood. Thornton came in second place with 354 votes behind Gardner. |
