Former Teacher Now Facing More Than 200 Sex Charges Against Children

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C.-- A former elementary school teacher from Mooresville has been charged with an additional 97 counts of taking indecent liberties with children after seven new victims came forward.

John Thomas Patterson, 65, was originally arrested in February and charged with 14 counts of taking indecent liberties after an investigation was launched following allegations he touched 4-5 students in the late 1980s. He was a teacher at Mount Mourne Elementary School for 17 years.

An additional 96 indecent liberties charges along with one first degree sex offense charge was brought up against Patterson in late February after more victims came forward.

The most recent charges against Patterson brings the total to 207 counts of taking indecent liberties and one count of first degree sex offense.

The charges are for crimes against 14 different victims who were students while Patterson taught fourth grade. His total bond amount is $700,000.
