Grandmother, Mother Killed In Drunk Driving Crash

MATTHEWS, N.C.--Shattered glass and twisted metal as police combed the crash scene that claimed the life of Marie Crook and her daughter, Jennifer Hunt.

"I cannot believe she's gone. It's just not hittin' us," said Matthews resident Kathy Humphrey.  Humphrey has known Hunt, her neighbor and friend, for the last ten years. She says Jennifer would forgive the suspected drunk driver who took her life. Police say 28 year old Justin Jones is expected to remain in a hospital, recovering from his injuries over the next few days.

"She would have just went in there and she would have hugged him and told him that she would be okay that she forgave him. She wouldn't have said, I hate you, Why did you do this? She would have said I would forgive you for what you've done...but she can't."

A legacy of forgiveness from a mother who felt her faith was important. "Who would have known that she's home now where she wants to be.  But we've lost her and her kids have lost her," Humphrey said.

Humphrey says Hunt helped search for missing 16 year old Kayla Campbell earlier this month.
She also was an active team mom with her son's football team at Sun Valley High School in Monroe. Two of her kids could be released from the hospital tomorrow. They broke bones in the crash.
