Halloween Trick or Treat Etiquette
CHARLOTTE, NC - Rhonda Sergeant and her 3-year old son Nolan are trick or treating a day early. Sergeant says, "He's going for the experience, more than trying to rack up the candy." But on Halloween, Sergeant hopes to call it an early night. Sergeant says, "Maybe 8:30pm or 9pm, because I think that's when the older kids are out, and its not as fun, or about the spirit of trick or treating." Mother of two year old twins Pamela Nelson hopes to be in bed early too. Nelson says, "I would kind of expect that everyone would be done around ten, we go to bed about then too." Many neighbors participate in trick or treating on Halloween night, but some say there should be a curfew. One good indicator of whether you should knock on a door, is if the porch light is on or off. President of Dilworth Neighborhood Association Tm Donaldson expects more than a thousand trick or treaters. He says there is etiquette Halloween night. Donaldson says, "Obviously be polite once your on someone else's property, to not walk on their grass, and to be cognizant that you are going to someone else's house." Donaldson also warns neighbors to be on the lookout for kids walking in the streets. Donaldson says, "Following the pedestrian rules is a very important part of halloween."
