HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A mother was pronounced dead at the scene of a Saturday morning wreck on Hagers Ferry Road.

CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit says Kristy Miller had her 5-month-old son in the car when her 2006 Honda Accord crossed the yellow line on Highway 73 and struck a truck carrying a horse trailer head on.

Police say the driver of the truck, Anne Jones, tried to avoid the collision by pushing the brakes and trying to steer off the right side of the road.

Kristy Miller was pronounced dead just before 11 a.m. Her child, who was secured in an infant seat, suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Jones was also transported for minor injuries.

Officers from Huntersville, Lincoln County, and Cornelius assisted on scene.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash
