CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Angela Cooper could tell something was brewing with the weather. The Hickory barista said her duties have heated up earlier than normal for the season. A sign the cold weather is already here. "We keep you warm in here, we can't control the weather out there," she said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said it's monitoring the forecast, testing out equipment and making sure State Troopers are ready.

"We even have the old metal tent sheds," said Ace Hardware of Mountain View Assistant Manager Clayton Mullis. His hardwore store has plenty of sheds, shovels and ice melt available if its needed. "We're ready if the weather were to change tomorrow. We are prepared and ready," Mullis said.

A little light rain didn't dampen the spirits of Kelsey and Brittany Weller as they searched for pumpkins. They said snow wouldn't bother them either. "I'd welcome it with open arms," said Hickory resident Kelsey Weller. A sign of the season even if it arrives earlier than normal.

An N.C.D.O.T. spokesperson in Catawba County said they aren't doing anything to prepare because they are using information that said it won't snow. Local school districts are monitoring the forecasts and will make a decision if something happens.
