Job Seekers Line Up for CPCC Career FairCHARLOTTE, NC - For Detroit-native Garrett Rightler.. this job fair is the next step in starting a new career. "When the economy went bad, I had to shut my doors, so I kinda decided to re-engineer myself since I'm an engineer," he explains. Rightler was one of many in a seemingly endless line that started early in the morning. While many are looking for new careers, some like Jeremy Dupree are looking to get a jumpstart on the competition. The CPCC student has two semesters left.. but he's worried about finding a job when he graduates. "I'm trying to build up my connections and getting to know people, networking," he says. Almost 100 businesses signed up to participate in today's job fair. That's the most since 2007. Organizers say the jobs are out there - sometimes you just have to broaden your view. "Like Carolinas HealthCare for example, we think of them as a health care company. However, there's a whole range of positions that support the health care side, like accounting and office administration and they're recruiting for those positions as well," says CPCC's Christy Curts. And for recruiters... versatility goes a long way. "We'll try to find a personality and a strong background that we can make interchangeable within our industry and put them anywhere," explains Chuck Stanec, with UniFirst Corporation. So is it worth the wait? Job seekers like Garrett and Jeremy hope so. "I guess it is! You're always looking for an advantage and you're always looking for one step up on your competition," Rightler says. An advantage they hope will have them employed soon.
