Josh Phegley Overcomes Rare Bleeding Condition
(Fort Mill, SC)- Josh Phegley is having an All-Star caliber season for the Charlotte Knights in 2013. In just over 200 bats this season in Triple-A, the starting catcher leads the team with a .327 batting average and 13 home runs.
But Josh's career was in jeopardy back in 2010 when it was discovered he had ITP. This rare bleeding condition happens when the blood platelet count is too low, and the blood doesn't clot as it should.
One of the proven ways to reverse this condition is to remove the spleen. After doctor's performed the surgery, Phegley's platelet count immediately jumped and his condition was reversed.
Josh went on to be promoted to the Knights during the 2011 season.
