Local Teen Found Dead Near His Mooresville Home

MOORESVILLE, NC- Police are not releasing much information about what they call a suspicious death of a teen in Mooresville.

Family members say Lake Norman High School student, Aaron Willis, was 15-years-old. They don't want to talk about what happened until they see the autopsy results.

Willis' family says he didn't come home after spending the night at a friend's house on Friday.

On Saturday around 5 p.m., neighbors called 911 after finding Aaron's body on a wooded trail behind homes along Montibello Drive in the Morrison Plantation Community.

Neighbors who live along the trail are shaken up.

"I have a 14 year-old son, so it certainly hits close to home and kind of literally close to home," said Beth Tooney, a Mooresville resident.

"It's just sad to see something like this happen to him. Never thought it would happen to someone around here," said Stephen Daspitm a friend of Willis.

Willis' friends say he spent most of his time playing basketball at the YMCA or spending time with friends in Mooresville.

"He was very social and always walking around the neighborhood with friends hanging out. Just a great guy," said Daspit.

Teens in the neighborhood who knew Aaron say he was involved with drugs in the past and drugs may have had something to do with what happened.

"People from the community are saying that it was possibly a drug overdose," said Tooney.

But it's all just speculation as people who knew Aaron wait to hear what led to his death.

Mooresville police are calling this a death investigation until autopsy results are released this week.
