Man Admits to Series of High Performance Car Thefts

LEXINGTON, S.C. -- The Lexington County Sheriff's Office arrested a man they believe is responsible for stealing eight vehicles in North Carolina, with a total value of approximately $600,000.

According to police, Vernon Gardner, 45, broke into the Randy Marion Chevrolet dealership, located at 220 West Plaza Drive, in Mooresville and stole a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 from the showroom more than two weeks ago. The car is valued at $58,500. Gardner was taken into custody Wednesday.

Gardner, a resident of Lexington, confessed to stealing eight vehicles in North Carolina. Detective Call with Mooresville Police Department tells us those vehicles included six of the high performance 2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and two 2013 Corvettes.

The suspect is incarcerated in the Lexington County Detention Center. He is being held on a $375,000 bond.
