Man Charged With Homicide After Dead Body Found In Home

LENOIR, NC- A homicide investigation leaves a Lenoir neighborhood on edge. Police arrested a man after they found a body in his home.

Lenour Police have not released the name of the person killed, but neighbors and friends tell say she was the girlfriend of the killer.

36 year-old Michael Whisnant is behind bars tonight.According to the police report, officers found one person dead inside his home on 810 wild cherry lane in Lenoir Friday night. Police were checking out the home after receiving a check the welfare of a resident complaint.

Neighbors say the murder is too close for comfort.

"You don't feel good about it you know and you wonder why things like that happen around here," said Dennis Anderson, a Lenoir resident.

"There has been previous domestic violence that I know of where she was hospitalized. She was just on the wrong road and it led to this but she was a good person, a very good person and nobody deserves to be done this way," said Amanda Higgins.

Neighbors say officers visited Whisnant's home sometimes monthly.

Whisnant has a history of violence. He already has two court dates scheduled for assault on a female and  assault with a deadly weapon.

Friday night, he was being held without bond and will make his first court appearance  for the homicide charge Monday.
