CHARLOTTE, N.C.--Police say a man was under the influence during a crash that killed one person in northwest Charlotte Wednesday night.

Investigators say Steven Johnson was driving his Chevrolet Suburban at a high rate of speed when he struck the back of a GMC Jimmy at the intersection of Brookshire Boulevard and I-85.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to cross the center median.  Johnson's vehicle then struck a car head-on.

The driver of the GMC, Leslie John Dahm, was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.

Johnson has been charged with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter.
