Man Fires Shots at Deputy and Trooper in Indian Trail

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. -- A man is in custody at the Union County Jail after firing shots at a NC State Trooper and a Union County Sheriff's Office Deputy.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey tells us 20-year-old James Sims was trying to buy beer after hours at a Circle K convenience store and became upset. The store clerk called for help.

A nearby State Trooper arrived at the scene and called for backup from Union County Sheriff's Office. Sims is accused of firing at the trooper and sheriff's deputy, missing both men. No one was injured.

Sims has been charged with the following criminal offenses:

Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer
Possession of a firearm by a felon
Carrying a concealed weapon
Drunk and disruptive
Possession of a malt beverage while underage
Two counts of resist delay and obstruct a public officer
Discharging a firearm inside the town limits of Indian Trail.
