Man Responsible for Matthews Fatal Crash Faces More Charges

MATTHEWS, N.C. --  Investigators with the Town of Matthews Police Department filed additional charges Saturday in a fatal accident that occurred on December 26.

Justin Wayne Jones, 28, has now been charged with two counts of felony death by vehicle and two counts of involuntary manslaughter. He was previously charged with DWI and reckless driving. He was arrested around 1:30 p.m. and transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail for processing around 2:50 p.m.

The charges stem from a fatal accident that occurred around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, on Matthews Township Parkway.

Jones, of 7905 Vinings Oak Lane, Apt. 631, Matthews, was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer that struck Marie Crook, 62, of 2332 Community Park Drive, Charlotte, who was driving a Honda CRV.

Ms. Crook was killed along with her daughter, Jennifer Hunt, 37, of Charlotte. Ms. Hunt’s two children received minor injuries.

Ms. Crook was traveling southbound and attempting to turn left onto Independence Boulevard when she was hit by Mr. Jones who was traveling northbound on Matthews Township Parkway.
