Man on the Edge - Social Media and Breaking News

by WCCB News Edge

Do you belive everything you read on Twitter?  If it comes from a friend or acquaintance, maybe not.  But if it comes from a trusted news source, you may be likely to take the info at face value.

Studies show that over the past 3 years, more and more people are using Twitter and Facebook as "news sources", rather than as social services.  But what happens when social media gets it wrong?

Last week was a great example of the way a fast-breaking story like the Boston bombing, can spread like wildfire over social media.  And whether the information is accurate or not, it's going to be tweeted, shared, and retweeted all the same.

So were you lead on a wild goose chase as good and bad information out of Boston flooded your newsfeed last week?  And did the constant flow of misinformation change your mind about using social media for news?
