Man on the Edge: NFL and Gun Control?
In the wake of the Jovan Belcher tragedy, football players across the league are taking it upon themselves to turn in their own guns. Some estimates put gun ownership at 75% among NFL players, nearly double that of the general population. So far, the turn-in is a voluntary thing, with players simply showing "solidarity" in the wake of a tragic situation. But should it go a step further?
Bob Costas just took a lot of heat for making an opinionated statement about guns during the Cowboys/Eagles game. His comments were personal, and not sanctioned by the league, but his rant presents an interesting problem for an organization like the NFL. Should they take a stance on a social and, dare we say, political, issue like gun control? Our Man on the Edge hit the streets to see where you stand.
