Man on the Edge: Ever Told a Snowball Lie?

Tools

by FOX News Edge

Pathological lying?  Hoax?  Cover-up?  Big misunderstanding?  Take your pick--everybody else is--because the "girlfriend who never was" scandal has snowballed entirely out of control for Manti Te'o.

The Notre Dame linebacker's story about the tragic deaths of both his grandmother and girlfriend was inspiring and motivational when it seemed to spur him on during the BCS Championship.  Except it seems that the girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, never was.  Details in the various stories about her just don't add up, and there's little evidence she ever existed before Te'o's story about her untimely death.

Theories are flying left and right, speculating as to what might actually be going on.  Te'o himself says he's the victim of an elaborate hoax.  But at this point, little is clear.

What do you think?  Is Te'o lying?  And have you ever been in his shoes?  It's our question of the night: have you ever told a lie that has snowballed out of control?
