Matthews - Rock Hill Resident Steven Meade was surprised when he took his family to Matthews Alive for the third year in a row. Meade says, "I wasn't exactly sure what to expect but it turned out nicely." Many thought the annual festival would be quite, because of the convention's pull Uptown. Matthews Mayor Jim Taylor says, "With all of the stuff associated with the DNC, they haven't dampered us at all."

Mayor Jim Taylor was proud to see the crowds. Especially since more than a dozen non profits benefit from the success of the festival. Taylor says, "I do think this is the year we're going to exceed the million dollar mark, giving back to area non profits."

Jow Culpepper works with the Boy Scouts of America. Culpepper says, "We've always taken it as a community service for our troop, and it does bring back money for our troop." A charity that has been part of Matthews Alive for seventeen years. Culpepper says, "We get some funding from this each year, some years it goes up, some years change, but this year looked good to me."
