The state is scheduled to select a foreign-based company in August to build and operate the toll lanes. Construction would begin next summer.

STATESVILLE, N.C.-- A group campaigning against the tolls is holding a public meeting in Statesville today.

'Widen I-77' will hold its meeting today at the Iredell County Government Center. The group says it's been in talks with state legislators and transportation officials in Raleigh.

The Department of Transportation says that toll lanes will pay for widening in North Mecklenburg County. The toll lanes will run in each direction from the Brookshire freeway to exit 28 in Cornelius.
