CHARLOTTE, NC -- Dozens of discount bus passengers made it to Charlotte tonight, hours after their bus caught fire. Passengers say around 11:40 a.m., a Megabus on it's way from Atlanta to the Queen City blew a tire and the fuel tank caught fire. A cell phone picture shows flames seconds after the bus driver got everyone off the bus at the Georgia/South Carolina line. None of the 80 passengers or driver were injured but all luggage was lost. Another bus was dispatched to bring the travelers to Charlotte. There is no word on how their luggage will be replaced. Megabus is working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the cause of the accident.

In a statement released by the company, they said "safety remains our number one priority. We can confirm that the vehicle involved in the accident was manufactured by Van Hool in 2012 and had passed a full preventative maintenance check and has only operated a further 2,500 miles since. Maintenance checks are performed by Megabus approximately every 10 days and the maintenance facility recently passed a Department of Transportation routine audit."
