CHARLOTTE,NC--There was a roaring welcome for a surprise guest at west Charlotte high school Thursday.

Bobcats owner Michael Jordan Presented $5,000 Y-Achievers scholarships to a few lucky students.

The Bobcats partnered with Fox Sports South and donated $200,000 to the YMCA's education program.

Jordan says it's something the Bobcats haven't been doing enough of, "over the last two or three years we kinda revved it up a little bit," " to give back to the community,"  "because I felt like the integration between us and the community was not strong." And I felt like it had to be strong," say Jordan.

Jordan also presented scholarships at west Meck and Vance high schools.

Players and staff volunteered in classrooms as a part of Cats Care Day of Service.
