ROWAN COUNTY, N.C.-- A joint operation of law enforcement agencies identified a suspicious tractor-trailer at a Rowan County truck stop Tuesday morning.

The driver, Hermilo Gomez, Jr., 41, of Edinburg, Texas, gave investigators permission to search the trailer, which was transporting mangos from the southwest border to New York. Hidden among the cargo was approximately 317 pounds of marijuana. Officials believe the marijuana was destined for customers in the Rowan County area.

Gomez was charged with two counts of trafficking marijuana, one count of maintaining a vehicle and one count of conspiracy to traffic marijuana. He is in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.

No other arrests have been made.
