UNION COUNTY, N.C.--A Monroe mother is praying that her daughter's accused abuser stays in jail.

Joshua Houser is accused of beating his stepdaughter last May.  Three-year-old Kilah Davenport is still recovering.  Part of her skull had to be removed so her brain could swell.

Kilah's mother says the longer Houser stays in jail the safer she feels.

Davenport says Kilah's Law is moving forward this week at the North Carolina General Assembly.  It would require convicted child abusers to register the same way sex offenders do.
