No Charges Filed After 3 Hurt at Cabarrus Bonfire

CONCORD, NC -- Cabarrus County officials say they won't file criminal charges in connection with an incident at a bonfire in which three high school students were seriously burned.

The Cabarrus Fire Marshal's Office said Wednesday that it found no indication of criminal activity at the bonfire, which was held in a field near Mount Pleasant.
 
   Fire Marshal Steven Langer said the investigation determined that the impact of the flames was worsened by the explosion of an aluminum can inside the metal container used for the bonfire. Witnesses say someone walked up to the container and poured diesel fuel into the flames, causing a flash fire that burned the three students.
 
   Authorities said the property owner would be cited for violating the county's fire code.
