HARMONY, N.C.-Harmony, North Carolina is home to only a few hundred people including Iraq War veteran William Davis. He moved here for the peace and quiet two years ago. But, this weekend that tranquility is expected to be shattered. "It's ridiculous," he said
A private property within the roughly one square mile town is scheduled to host hundreds of members of the Ku Klux Klan. Harmony resident William Davis said, "They should be able to stop that. That's wrong. That's ridiculous," he said.
A flyer from the "Loyal White Knights" says they are planning a rally and cross burning tomorrow afternoon.The Iredell County Sheriff's Office says they'll be monitoring the event and respond if they need to.Leaders of Occupy Charlotte say they are calling on all their members to meet in Harmony and participate in a "Counter Demonstration."
Davis said, "The KKK is a one color people and its wrong." After fighting overseas for more than two decades davis said he was hoping to be able to enjoy a quiet Memorial Day weekend. Now, this veteran is frustrated his home is getting attention for what he says are all the wrong reasons.
"It shouldn't even go on because its making the little town of Harmony look bad to everybody else,"
Davis said.
The N.A.A.C.P. is planning a Love and Unity Rally tomorrow morning in North Iredell County and an Equality Rally near Harmony tomorrow afternoon. The K.K.K. has not returned our requests for comment.
