One Person Injured in Train Vs. Tractor Trailer Accident in MooresvilleMOORESVILLE, NC -- A man is in the hospital tonight after the tractor trailer he was driving collided with a Norfolk Southern train. According to Mooresville Police, around 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, the tractor trailer truck was attempting to cross the railroad tracks on Mazeppa Road near Penske Way when it was struck by the train. A spokesperson with Norfolk Southern said the conductor attempted to alert and throw on the emergency brakes but was unsuccessful. The collision ruptured the fuel tank on the tractor trailer causing the locomotive and truck to catch on fire. Fire officials say they were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Ire dell County Emergency Services transported the truck driver to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no injuries to the train crew. Cleanup crews are currently on scene. Mazeppa Road will be closed between Overhead Bridge Road and the entrance to Mazeppa Park until cleanup is complete. The collision is still under investigation. There is no word if charges will be filed against the tractor trailer driver. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
