Parents Hiring Plastic Surgeons To Bully-Proof Their KidsCHARLOTTE, N.C.--Parents are taking what some might call drastic measures to protect their children from bullies. More kids are having plastic surgery so they can avoid becoming targets. The parents of 7-month-old "Nicholas" say he was born with deformed ears. Today, he got what's called an ear well to mold his ear back to a normal shape. His parents wanted to protect their son from the ridicule of bullies later in life. "We felt like if there's anything we could do when he's small and it wouldn't actually bother him than we should," they said. The Hunstad Kortesis Center in Huntersville has seen a 20-percent increase in surgeries for children and teenagers trying to avoid the wrath of bullies. Ears, noses, and breasts are the most common targets of bully-proof surgeries for boys and girls. Dr. Bill Kortesis said, "Parents and patients are more educated as to the options that are available and because of that there's a greater percentage of procedures being done." Julie Bleimann is one of those parents. She's looking into surgery for her six year old son who gets picked on for his big ears.
