Charlotte, NC, November 12, 2012 – SUBWAY® restaurants will host Salvation Army “Angel Trees” in hundreds of participating restaurants in Charlotte and surrounding areas to make the season brighter for children in the local community. The Angel Tree program gives donors an easy way to provide new, unopened toys and clothing to children who otherwise would receive few or no gifts at Christmas.

According to the Salvation Army, there are many hardworking families, still struggling with unemployment or underemployment, who want to provide a brighter Christmas for their children.

“We are so thankful for this partnership with Subway,” said Major Bobby Lancaster, Commanding Officer for the Charlotte Area Command. “Each of our Angel Tree tags represents a precious boy or girl in our community. Having the tags in SUBWAY® restaurants provides higher visibility and will greatly increase our ability to make Christmas brighter for each and every child.”

“The Angel Tree program gives us a chance to help our neighbors in need. It is always heartwarming to see the generosity of our customers and employees and we appreciate anything people can do to support this community effort,” said Wendell Rowell, local owner of SUBWAY® restaurants.

From now until Dec. 10, participating SUBWAY® restaurants will display paper angel tags with the first name, age, gender and gift wishes for a deserving child in the local area. Contributors can take one or more of the tags from the display, purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags, and return the gifts to one of the designated drop-off locations. For information on drop-off locations for new, unwrapped gift donations, visit salvationarmycarolinas.org. All gifts received will be distributed to the families by The Salvation Army in time for Christmas.
