LANCASTER, S.C.-- A Lancaster man is behind bars after police say he shot his neighbor during a fight early Saturday morning.

Police arrested an injured William Lee Adams, 42, at his home in Lancaster on Sunday and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators say Adams and James David Phillips, 41, got into an altercation in front of Adams' home on JB Denton Road in Lancaster just after midnight Saturday. During that confrontation, police say Adams took out a handgun and shot Phillips one time.

Adams is at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
