Proposed Subdivision Concerns South Charlotte NeighborsCHARLOTTE, NC - Some residents in South Charlotte are worried about a proposed plan to build 93 homes in an area that already has three large surrounding neighborhoods. Their top issues with plan come down to wildlife, privacy and construction concerns. South Charlotte Resident, Julene Less, says wildlife is a big part of the neighborhood, "We see deer daily, and who knows where they're going to go are they just going to push them into the the neighborhood?" Less bought her house near Providence High School 18 months ago. She and other neighbors worry about the possible environmental impact from the new neighborhood, "Large trees that have been there for years, being cut down and losing their privacy." But nature and wildlife are not the only issues. South Charlotte Neighbor Brian Trent says home value is at the top of the list, "Home prices have been pushed down a lot in this area and a lot of people are very sensitive to that right now these are our investments and when they go down after our purchase price, it's not a good thing." The proposed subdivision would be on the 55 acres. City Planning Manager Shannon Frye says the the land is zoned for residential use, "The city staff is reviewing those development proposals to make sure it is in compliance with the provided ordinances. Frye says the neighborhood is only in the very early planning stages, "Submit construction plans to the city of Charlotte, with an application where they are formally requesting approval for the 93 lots on this piece of the land." In the meantime, residents like Less are looking on the bright side, "It's nicer to be surrounded by homes than to have apartments in your back yard." Pulte Homes is the developer behind the proposed neighborhood. A communications representative says they could not comment on pending land transactions. |
