CHARLOTTE, NC - "Just decided to stop and wait it out," explains Ft. Mill, SC resident Mike Thulin.

Thulin gave up waiting in traffic on Independence Boulevard.

"It's frustrating, can't sit in traffic," he explains.

He might be waiting for awhile.

All weekend, crews are working to re-surface westbound lanes, backing up traffic for miles.

It's the same problem drivers going east faced last week.

"It's frustrating because I deal with this traffic all through the week, so I'm thinking that it would be less crowded during the Saturday vs during the week," says Northeast Charlotte resident Alicia Jones.

Traffic goes from four lanes down to one between Eastway and Briar Creek.

"With the growth and everything, it still makes no sense, we're still in a mess, and if we're not in a mess over here, we're in a mess down the road, or Monroe Road," says Ft. Mill, SC resident Cindy Brown.

Some drivers say there's a better time to do the work.

"One or two o'clock in the morning, give people a chance to, you know, shop and do some of the things they like to do on the weekend vs sitting in traffic all day," Jones says.

"It is what it is. You know, it is what it is, and we just have to deal with it," Brown explains.

Traffic issues drivers will deal with for at least another day.
