CONCORD, N.C.--To skip or not to skip? That was that question many NASCAR fans answered at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with a resounding "Yes!"  as they let their kids skip school for Speed Week.

Backing out of school was a no-brainer for the family of Ellenboro, North Carolina Resident
Conner Hickman. "Yay I'm finally out of school for the next two days," Hickman said. Conner and his twin brother, Jon are celebrating their 9th birthday this weekend with a visit to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All Star Race. "They've had perfect attendance until now so we messed that up," said Anita Higgins, mother of Conner and Jon.

While they are missing three days of school, that's nothing compared to Austin, Texas residents Addison and Laney Huffman. "We just said we're taking a family trip and we'll see you next year," said their mother, Contessa Huffman. The 5-year-old twins got out two weeks early. "My parents would never take me out of school. They wouldn't take me out for anything. They don't know how good they have it," said their father Colter Huffman.

Even if this free time is spend with a lot of sitting around, there's a common thread at the campground. "You're making memories and to me that's what its about," said Auburndale, Florida resident Kelley Cochran. Memories that they hope won't fade by Monday when reality returns for the Hickmans. "I don't want to go to school" said Jon Hickman.

The Sprint Cup Series All-Star Race is on Saturday. The Coca Cola 600 is on Sunday, May 27.
