Teen Killed While Attempting To Cross the StreetCHARLOTTE, NC -- UPDATE: A 13-year-old boy who got hit by a car in east Charlotte has died. Jessi Mendoza-Valdez was crossing Central Avenue near Rosehaven Drive on Monday. Witnesses say he stopped in the median, then ran into traffic. The driver is not being charged. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On April 16, 2012 the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Central Avenue. The pedestrian, a 13 year old Hispanic male, was crossing Central Avenue near Lansdale Drive when he was struck by a 1988 Mazda 323 traveling inbound on Central Avenue. The pedestrian had crossed the two outbound lanes of travel and crossed over a landscaped median before being struck by the vehicle. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. The pedestrian was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life threatening injuries. |
