Trend Shows Divorces Spike In March

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--February may have been the month for lovers, but March seems to be a time for broken hearts. 

Law firms across the country say that is when they see a spike in divorce filings.  It's no different here in North Carolina. 

One attorney in Gastonia blames the uptick on the fact that couples wait to get their income tax returns. 

Others decide to postpone the inevitable until the holidays are over.  More couples 50 and up are getting divorced. 

That number has risen from one in ten in 1990 to one in four by 2009.
