Traffic Stop Leads to Homicide Arrest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Detectives have identified a suspect responsible for a double shooting that occurred Tuesday morning.

North Tryon Division officers responded to a Malibu Drive residence at approximately 1:00 in the morning and spoke with a female resident who believe that she had observed her ex-boyfriend in a wooded area by her house. Police were unable to locate the subject after conducting a thorough search.

Later, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Hickory Grove Division patrol officers conducted an unrelated traffic stop at Harris Boulevard and Keyway Boulevard, in reference to a male subject driving at a high rate of speed. After being stopped, the male subject fled his vehicle on foot to a nearby apartment. Officers located the suspect and placed him under arrest.  He was then transported to CMC University for medical treatment.  While being treated, the suspect advised hospital staff that he had shot his girlfriend.

North Tryon Division officers responded to Malibu Drive to attempt to locate the victim. When officers arrived, they located a deceased man and woman inside of the residence.   Detectives canvassed the neighborhood to determine if anyone heard or saw anything in the moments leading up to the shooting.

The suspect, identified as Jacquece Forrest, 28, is charged with the murder of Jennifer Smith, 25, and Luc Gonzalez, 25. The families of the victims have been notified.

Forrest has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and is being interviewed by Homicide Detectives at CMPD headquarters.
