Vale Man Charged with Drug Violations After Leaving Scene of Crash

Lincolnton, NC – A Vale man who fled his vehicle after crashing on Beam Lumber Road is behind bars on traffic and drug violations.

According to deputies, Patrick Wayne Johnson, 40, of 3199 West NC 27 Hwy,  was arrested on one felony count each of Probation Violation, Possession with the Intent to Manufacture, Sell and Deliver a Controlled Substance and Maintaining a Dwelling/Vehicle for a Controlled Substance.  He is also charged with one misdemeanor count each of Careless and Reckless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Domestic Criminal Trespass, Injury to Real Property, Driving while License Revoked or Suspended and Speeding.

On October 2, 2012 Deputy A. George was traveling westbound on Highway 27 near Houser Farm Road when he observed an eastbound vehicle traveling 67 miles per Hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.  He turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle which made a turn onto Beam Lumber Road.  The officer temporarily lost sight of the vehicle in a curve and as he went around the curve he saw the vehicle had skidded into the yard of a residence. The car was still running and the lights were on but the driver had fled the scene.

The driver left behind three baggies of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The State Highway Patrol and Union Fire Department assisted deputies in searching the area for the driver but they were unable to locate him.  The follow-up investigation led to the owner of the vehicle and eventually Johnson who was driving the car.

Johnson was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $51,500 secured bond.
