CHARLOTTE, N.C.- In this week's Waiting Child we introduce you to a father who shares his story of growing up an in adopted family.  Now he's giving back to two teenage boys in hopes to save them just as one family saved him.

He was just 3 years old when a family came into an orphanage to adopt him.  Today Donald Smith is all grown up and returning the favor, "When you come from that background you just naturally have a heart for it cause you feel like no child should experience what you experienced."

Donald is now a foster parent.  He has two 17 year old young men and says they have a bright future ahead of them.  They're both taking advance placement courses, they hold leadership roles in multiple community organizations, and Smith says his sons are already making plans to attend college in the fall, "They give me a whole different purpose in life than I've had before."

Smith feels grateful for the opportunity to give back.  He says its a way to thank the family who once saved him, "I haven't forgotten the feeling of wanting to be taken in."

Giving his sons unconditional love and helping them grow up is a father's greatest reward says Smith, "They're the future and they can't do for themselves, so you taking that step forward is beyond invaluable to them."
