MOORESVILLE, N.C. - 26-year-old Ignacio Vazquez is behind bars, charged with first degree murder.  Mooresville Police arrested him at a home on Oak Street around five PM Wednesday.  "From the radio traffic I was able to hear, it didn't sound like there were any problems with the arrest," says Major Bryan Anderson.

Just hours earlier, investigators found a 29-year-old woman's body inside a townhouse on Agape Drive.  What looks like a muddy footprint was on the front door, suggesting perhaps someone had kicked it in.  Anderson says police were not notified of this crime in typical fashion.  He says, "I know it wasn't a 911 call that we got."

Neighbors tell us they knew and liked the victim.  One woman says, "A nice person, she was a real nice person."  She says Vazquez and the victim were dating.  She also says the victim has a young son, around a year old.  She says, "It's shocking 'cause that little boy is gonna miss his mom."

Other residents tell us they also regularly saw Vazquez at the town home.  One says, "He'd be out here anytime of night, on the phone."

The on-going investigation is unsettling for neighbors.  They tell us the victim's body remained inside the town home well into the evening.  A neighbor says, "Somebody got murdered, right behind my house. Behind my house! No!"

Police declined to say how the victim was killed but neighbors tell us they did not hear any gunshots.  Police also have not released her name yet, pending notification of family.
