Man Caught in Garbage Truck Compactor Survives
by Caryn Little

PORTLAND, O.R.--A man is lucky to be alive after he was caught in a garbage truck as it compacted two times.

Police say 27-year-old Justin Gilpatrick left a bar but decided he did not want to drink and drive so he fell asleep inside a recycling dumpster.

During the middle of the night, a crew emptied the contents of the dumpster into a compactor truck.

The truck driver began compacting the load while Gilpatrick was inside.  The driver then heard Gilpatrick's screams and pulled over.

Gilpatrick was treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries.
