SOUTH EL MONTE, C.A.--Two high school students severed their fingers after a game of tug-of-war.

Officials say the students were participating in the game during the school's Spirit Week.  Both students were taken to a local hospital but surgeons were not able to re-attach the fingers.

One student was identified as a female soccer player and the other as a male football player.  A hospital spokesperson said both students are in stable condition.

Reports claim each student lost at least one finger.
