Francis turns on charm in first meeting with press
VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis says his immediate inspiration for the name he took was St. Francis of Assisi, known as a man of the poor and a man of peace.
Some suggested he may have chosen for Francis Xavier, co-founder of the Jesuit order to which he belongs.
The pope today offered intimate insights to thousands of journalists and others about the moments after his papal election.
Meanwhile, the Vatican says Pope Francis will visit his predecessor next Saturday.
The Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Francis will call on Benedict at the Castel Gandolfo papal retreat in the hills south of Rome.
The visit will be significant given the novelty of having a reigning and retired pope side-by-side.
