Police: Russian Mob Ran Illegal Celebrity Poker Games
NEW YORK, NY-- Federal Authorities arrested 34 individuals on Tuesday after a money-laundering investigation uncovered a Russian organized crime operation.
Investigators say the illegal operation included high stakes poker games for the rich and famous, as well as threats of violence to people who hadn't paid their debts. The names of those involved have not been released, but they are said to include Hollywood celebrities, professional athletes, and Wall Street executives.
New York, Los Angeles, and Miami were just a few places arrests were made. New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the proceeds from the illegal games was allegedly sent to organized crime overseas.
Reports say those arrested are set to appear in court at a later date.
